"This and that" - can you use the right word?

Joanne wears her new jeans to a party. "I like these!" she says. Why does she say "these"?
- Because the jeans are too tight.
- "Jeans" is plural in English, and she says "these jeans" because they are close to her - she is wearing them!
- She is talking lazily. She should really say "I like these jeans", but she has left out the word "jeans".

In the Nancy Sinatra song, why does she talk about "these boots" and not "those boots"?
